How to fit Jom coilovers?
The jom installation is straight forward and easy just replace old struts and shocks with the new ones and replace the springs with the new ones and make sure the front adjusters aren’t put in upside down or it wont lower your car. Super easy install. So far I’ve had mine in for a year, and I do enjoy the handling.
What is the best setting for coilovers?
If you turn the damping control knob to the left, you’ll “loosen” your ride quality for a more comfortable commute. If you turn the control knob to the right, you’ll stiffen up your ride for curvy roads or the track.
What are Jom coilovers like?
For ride quality, I would give them a 8/10. They handle very well and are quite firm when cornering, accelerating or braking but not at all when driving normally. The coilovers were also pretty well packaged and came looking decent, I would give a 7/10 for packaging. It could always be better.
Are coilovers good for daily driving?
The adjustable nature of coilovers allows for a stiffer suspension setup, which can lead to a harsher ride on uneven surfaces or pothole-riddled roads. This stiffness may not be ideal for those seeking a smooth and comfortable daily driving experience.
What is the best angle for coilovers?
If the shocks are leaned 20 degrees from vertical, they would have a vertical damping effectiveness of about 94 percent of what a vertical shock would have.)
Does adjusting coilovers affect ride quality?
One of the best things about coil overs is the ease of ride height adjustment. Sometimes they dial it in a little too low or a little too high and the shock runs out of stroke, causing it to bottom out and give a harsh ride. Lastly, you’ll need to make sure that you aren’t overextending or bottoming out the shock.
Is too much coilover preload bad?
Too much preload can result in a bouncy ride quality and poor performance and not enough preload can result in unwanted suspension noise and feel.
How much should I preload?
1″ of preload in front and 2″ of preload in the rear is a good starting point, but some suspension systems require breaking the “rules”. Give us a call for all of your spring needs!
What coilovers have the smoothest ride?
If driving comfort is your main priority in updating your suspension system, then the KW Suspensions Street Comfort Coilover Kit should be at the front of your choices when you shop. This KW Coilover variant offers a sport suspension with optimized comfort and reduced stiffness for a better street driving experience.
Do coilovers improve acceleration?
Coilovers improve performance by enhancing the overall driving experience. Through their adjustable features and high-quality components, coilovers have the ability to significantly enhance a vehicle’s handling, cornering stability, and balance.
Which coilovers are made in Japan?
All TEIN lowering springs and coilover are manufactured and assembled in our factory based in Yokohama, Japan.
Does preload affect ride quality?
For more stability, less preload at the back or more in the front does the job. However, too little preload in the front might mean your front rides lower, and your forks might bottom out during hard braking. Conversely, too much preload in the front could mean the front rides high and feels harsh.
What is preload on coilovers?
Preloading springs involves “compressing” the spring to reduce the level of play in the springs. The more you compress the spring, the distance the suspension has to travel will decrease.
Do you have to remove coilovers to adjust them?
Removing the Coilover Pfft. Procrastination is the key to success. Now, in all honesty, you should actually take them out to use the lower threaded body of the coilover to adjust the height of the car.
Are coilovers always adjustable?
In addition to flexible lowering, most coilover suspensions also have other adjustment options. In addition to the hardness, the driver can often also adjust the rebound or compression damping.
Can you lower a car with just coilovers?
While lowering springs rely on spring rate and height to alter your ride height, coilovers use the spring seat’s location on the shock to raise or lower your vehicle. That means you could swap in a heavier or lighter spring and easily get back to your desired ride height.
What is the life span of coilovers?
High-quality coilovers that are used under normal driving conditions and maintained properly can typically last between 50,000 to 100,000 miles. For a daily driver, this can translate to roughly 4 to 7 years, assuming an average annual mileage of around 12,000 to 15,000 miles.
What’s better shocks or coilovers?
Cost: Coilovers are generally more expensive than standalone shock absorbers. The price difference is due to their adjustable features and additional components. Performance: Coilovers are favored by performance enthusiasts due to their ability to fine-tune handling characteristics.
What are the downsides of coilovers?
Some drivers report that coilovers lead to a stiff, uncomfortable ride. In some cases, this is because poor quality coilovers were not able to be configured correctly. Possible failure. Some “sleeve type” designs can fail in certain kinds of driving.
What are 4 way adjustable coilovers?
The MCS 4W is quadruple-adjustable damper with an external reservoir. High speed compression, low speed compression, high speed rebound, and low speed rebound damping forces are independently adjustable.
Are stiffer coilovers better?
As with many adjustments and modifications to your vehicle, it depends. While stiffer suspension might increase driver sensitivity, improve handling response, and improve tire contact on smooth roads, conversely, it can decrease ride quality, handling performance, and grip on bumpy roads.
How many inches do coilovers lower your car?
In most cases, expect coilovers to lower your vehicle from 0.5″ and go as low as 3.5″. Can I add coilovers but keep my car at stock height? In almost all cases the answer to this is no. By default, even at the highest setting, most coilovers still lower your vehicle by at least half an inch.
How do I know what size coilovers I need?
At full bump, measure from where you will be mounting the bottom of the shock on the axle, to where you will mount the top of the shock. Now add 1″ to the overall length of that measurement. This extra 1″ will make up for the 5/8″ bumper stop on the shock shaft, and the 3/8″ of extra shaft showing.
Do you need spacers for coilovers?
The fact of the matter is, most customers that have Raceland coilovers won’t need spacers at all. If you install the coilovers and find that spacers are needed don’t fret, we have given details on how to properly measure for spacers here.
Do you have to set preload on coilovers?
One reason it is important to preload your coilovers is to reduce the likelihood of the coilover from completely unseating. You want to prevent the spring from unloading to the point where the spring becomes off centered and is unable to properly re-seat itself.

Understanding JOM Coilovers
First, let’s talk about what we’re dealing with. JOM coilovers are adjustable suspension components that give you more control over your car’s ride height, damping, and spring rate. In other words, you get to customize how your car handles, from cruising down the highway to hitting the track.
Getting Started
Before you start tweaking anything, gather the tools you need:
A jack
Jack stands
A torque wrench
A set of wrenches (to adjust the coilover components)
A tape measure
Optional: A helper
Adjusting Ride Height
Okay, let’s start with adjusting ride height. This is the simplest adjustment and can drastically affect the look of your car.
1. Find the adjustment collar on the coilover. You’ll see a threaded collar with a lock nut at the top.
2. Loosen the lock nut using a wrench.
3. Rotate the collar up or down to adjust the ride height.
4. Tighten the lock nut to secure the collar in place.
Important: Adjust both sides of the car equally to maintain balance.
Adjusting Damping
Now for damping, which controls how stiff or soft your suspension feels.
1. Locate the damping adjustment knob on the coilover body. You’ll find it somewhere near the top.
2. Turn the knob clockwise to increase damping (make the ride stiffer) or counterclockwise to decrease damping (make the ride softer).
Pro Tip: If you’re not sure where to start, begin with the damping set at a medium setting.
Adjusting Spring Rate
Spring rate determines how much the spring compresses under weight. This affects the car’s handling and responsiveness.
1. Locate the spring perch on the coilover.
2. Adjust the spring perch by rotating it to change the spring rate.
Important: Consult your JOM coilover manual for specific instructions on how to adjust the spring rate. Some models may require tools or special procedures.
Tips for Adjusting Your JOM Coilovers
Start with small adjustments: Don’t go overboard on your first try. Make small adjustments and see how they affect the ride.
Test drive your car: After each adjustment, take your car for a spin to get a feel for the changes.
Pay attention to how your car handles: Notice how the car reacts to bumps, turns, and different driving conditions.
Adjust slowly: Don’t make drastic changes in one go. Fine-tune your settings gradually.
Consider your driving style: If you’re a more spirited driver, you may prefer a stiffer ride. If you prioritize comfort, a softer ride might be better.
Finding the Sweet Spot
Tuning your JOM coilovers is a process of trial and error. Don’t be afraid to experiment and find the settings that work best for you. Remember, it’s about achieving a balance between comfort, performance, and handling.
Common JOM Coilover Adjustments
Here are some common adjustments you might find yourself making:
Increase damping: This can help improve handling and reduce body roll in corners.
Decrease damping: This can provide a more comfortable ride, especially on rough roads.
Lower ride height: This can improve handling and give your car a more aggressive look.
Raise ride height: This can improve ground clearance and comfort.
Safety First
Before you start adjusting your JOM coilovers, always make sure your car is safely supported on jack stands. Never work under a car that is only supported by a jack.
