This Train Tech special features the SFX10 Steam Sound Capsule being fitted to a Hornby B12 LNER steam locomotive.

I have never before come across so much sound being packed into such a tiny package. Enjoy!

  1. I have a Bachmann steam loco that has a split chassis and I’m informed that it’s too difficult to instal dcc into it. I am going to set up a track totally independent of the dcc tracks and put one of these into the tender. That’s a possible plan so far. It was a Christmas prezzie so I want to keep it as, despite the dcc limitation, it’s a lovely, nicely weathered locomotive.

  2. Why cut off that poor clicker?

Tender's a much better place for it than a coach. A coach should be fitted with lighting, interior details, and people figures.

Maybe you could make a sort of "megaphone" for the speaker out of aluminum cut from a soda can?

And there is too an excuse: Blew all my money on Transformers. So NYEAH

  3. I like this, great idea after watching this video a second time I had a thought. If you use a small plastic wire tie, put it around the plastic tube, gently close it just enough to hold the tube more open it might do a better job of amplifying the sound. Just don't tighten it where it starts to collapse the tube.

  4. Hello ic82 your videos have inspired me to trains and model trains the first video i saw by you was your sparrowhawk one the pendolino unboxing video made me look for a pendolino despite the fact they are not made any more ihave just found a dccfited pendolino set and it bis my favorite one in my collection thanks a million for getting me into trains.

  5. please note –
    scotsman tender not included!
    i wish haha
still looks amazing and I will definitely get one (or 10) for the layout as I increase my fleet. my L1 would definitely benefit from one.

  6. It's good but for me there are some snags to it that you will have to change the battery every time it runs out and id prefer to control the sound via a controller. It is a great piece of engineering though like you say. Great video.

  7. I have both the steam and diesel units, and as below I've fitted mine into Hornby ex-LMS CCT vans so I can add it to both passenger or mixed goods rakes.  The CCT's  have some openings in the chassis for wheel clearance and plenty of internal space.  Of the two, the steam seems to sound better, at least to me.

  8. Can't complain for the price. I fix mine into wagons, so many locos can share the wagon one at a time and have sound. I have the diesel one too. Upon chatting to the guy at TT they said louder sounds would mean shorter battery life, so it is a compromise but it is as you say loud enough for home use (not club or event use).
MyLocoSounds do a more advanced analogue system but then it costs a load more. I think this is a great product, and gives sound to anyone.
p.s. they are looking at making future models louder.

  9. The colour of the loco is Apple Green. The LNER had two shades: Doncaster and Darlington. I believe Darlington's was quite a bit lighter than Doncaster.
